Dalsland Swimrun (DSR) runs 24 August, 2019. The race is held between the aqueduct in Håverud and Ekas environmental park in Bengtsfors.

Dalsland Swimrun also runs in the unique environment along the Dalsland Canal with its built canals and natural lake systems. Around the canal lies beautiful terrain, wonderful houses, deep pine forests and rocky mountain hills. We promise both a physical challenge and a fantastic nature experience.

Dalsland Canal

The premiere of Dalsland Swimrun was held 2018. 150 years after Dalsland Canal was built. The purpose of the canal was primarily to facilitate the transports from the iron and paper industries that were located in Värmland and Dalsland. It was opened in September 1868 by Karl XV, but soon the canal had competition from the railway. Profitability was weak during the following decades. A lot of measures were taken to meet the competition. Therefore, the canal was one of the busiest waterways in the country during the 1920 and 1930. Probably nobody could imagine that it would be used for a swimming and running competition 150 years later.

The last cargo ship left in the early 1970 and since then it has been the tourist industry that operates the canal. The canal is an industrial memorial reminiscent and if it were to shut down hundreds of jobs would disappear. Dalsland Swimrun is a collaboration project between Camp Dalsland, Dalsland Canal and the EU.
